Frequently Asked Questions
- Arrive before students for training
- Dress comfortably, you will be standing a lot
- Assigned to one business with 4-9 students – not including your own child (allow students to be independent, critical thinkers for the day)
- Know that the lessons in the classroom taught students new skills to use in JA BizTown, but did not give them knowledge of what would happen at JA BizTown
- Help guide students through their day by leading them to resources in the business
- High energy, high noise environment with a bit of chaos as well
- Productive struggle as students are finding their footing and figuring out their duties
- Pay attention to JA staff on the microphone as they are speaking to the students, it will inform you of what will happen as you progress through the day
- Attend volunteer training where you will be introduced to the volunteer training binder that will walk you through your day
- Stand back and let students run the day – be available to help guide as needed
- Direct students to their job booklets and any other resources to help them answer their own questions
- Allow students to figure things out on their own
- Offer hints to struggling students rather than answers
- Refer students to JA staff if the two of you are unable to figure out the answer to a question
- Read their job booklets to understand the tasks they must complete for the day
- Ask you for answers that they can find in the job booklets – your job will be to direct them back to the booklets for those answers
- Do the work for the students – especially at the point-of-sale computers and the CFO computers
- Answer questions for them that they can find on their own in their job booklets

Each student is assigned a job within a business. Here are some sample booklets associated with a couple of the roles in JA BizTown. These booklets contain the various tasks students need to accomplish throughout the simulation.
